While an employee at Mountain View, in the heart of Silicon Valley, Olivier Menut, his long-time friend, convinced him to return to France, to join an entrepreneurial adventure, that of OSO-AI.
Founded in Brest in 2018, OSO-AI is a French Deeptech specialized in Ambient Intelligence. The solution is based on a simple idea: when a person is in trouble, they call for help or make a noise. Sound, in fact, is a particularly rich source of information. Even when we close our eyes, we are able to accurately perceive and understand what is going on around us.
This is precisely what “The Augmented Ear of Caregivers” offers: detect and alert caregivers in medico-social institutions through detailed and accurate notifications. This system, intended for nursing homes, covers a wide variety of situations such as falls, calls for help, wheezing, and even vomiting — a particularly critical element for the care of residents. It is now the only device capable of detecting vomiting, which is what sets it apart on the market.
The growth prospects are very strong, with many challenges to overcome. That of internationalization that is under way in Europe and Japan, that of understanding sounds, in particular with the habits of some people with disabilities; and of staying at home.
Respect for privacy is at the heart of the development of the solution. The analyses are carried out in real time, without recording sounds, except for alerts sent to caregivers. The system is automatically deactivated as soon as several people are present in the room. This ethical approach makes OSO-AI a much more privacy-friendly solution than traditional voice assistants.
